We have a QMS Lasergrafix 1200 laser printer. It can produce
letter quality output on single sheets at l2 pages/minute. It can also draw
graphs and use several different fonts -- large, small, italic, gothic, and
Greek. Several of the fonts can be used sideways.
The printer can be used in several different modes:
Line Printer -- Several size fonts are available; with the small font
132 characters will fit across a regular piece of paper.
Diablo -- It will accept the escape codes for the Xerox printer; this is
then one way to do superscripts and subscripts and right justification.
Graphics -- It can be given vectors or individual dots. There is a program,
TEKLAS, that converts Tektronix plot files into laser plot files.
TeX -- Support for the TeX typesetting system is in the works, completion
probably by fall or winter.
QUIC -- It has a set of characters that can be printed in any size; the
only drawback is that this font is just coarse, block style letters.
Bar Codes -- Yes, if you want, it can.
Forms -- You can easily design your own forms and incorporate them with
your printouts. (The word "forms" is used here to mean lines, boxes,
columns and other usually pre-printed material.)
Cost is 8 cents/page.
